If you do not have a data box yet and you belong to one of the groups that will have the data box automatically set up, you can expect a letter from the Ministry of the Interior between 1 January 2023 and 31 March 2023. How does the process work, what to look out for and how to make using a data box as easy as possible?
You can still set up a data box on request. After 1 January 2023, this option will remain only for natural persons. Others who have not proactively set up a data box by then will have the data box automatically set up.
From letter to data box step by step
The first step will be to receive an invitation in your mailbox from the Ministry of Interior to pick up a letter. This can happen anytime between 1 January 2023 and 31 March 2023. In the letter, which you will pick up at the post office, you will find the login details for your newly established data box. The moment you log in for the first time (via the website or the Mobilní klíč eGovernmentu app), the Czech authorities will start communicating with you only in this way. If you do not log in to the data box yourself, it will be activated automatically after 15 days.
You can find out that you have received a message in your data box by receiving an email notification, but you must set up the notification actively. To view the content and attachments, however, you must log directly into the data box where you can receive and send data messages. However, beware of the fiction of delivery and automatic deletion of messages that we wrote about in this article
Communication with Czech authorities (abbreviated OVM = orgány veřejné moci) is free. This will save you hours of queuing at the offices or post office, where you may be charged for the service. If you want to send a message to a private entity or person, you will pay CZK 25, which is almost half the price of a registered letter sent by post. Moreover, when communicating via data mail, you have the assurance of guaranteed delivery, which is irrefutable proof even in the case of litigation. Of course only if you save the message, otherwise it will be deleted after 90 days.
How can you simplify the whole thing?
Looking for a way to make using your data box easier? Do you want to be able to see in your email what message you have received and be able to respond to it? We have a new free service called Saamo, which allows you to do everything about your data box yourself (data box in my email).
